We had another post planned for today, but when one of our readers directed us to this infographic on Amazon, we felt we had to post it because it clearly explains how the company is hurting local economies, controlling publishers and authors, and becoming a very real danger to readers through its unethical business practices.
Granted, our blog is supported by a local bookshop, and that makes Amazon our competition. But the reason we fight so hard against their business practices is that we really believe they’re dangerous, both to our local economies and to the future of books. Putting control of books — all those stories and all those ideas — in the hands of one entity is harmful, whether that entity be a government, a corporation, or even a little independent shop. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen. Let’s stop buying from Amazon. For the full graphic and more information, visit the Institute for Local Self-Reliance.
