Two Great Birmingham Events Bring Books and Music Together

We love art and story in all its forms, and anyone who’s ever walked into Church Street to get a latte and heard Michael Jackson followed by Shovels & Rope followed by Ray Charles knows that our taste in music ranges far and wide. We’re so happy when musicians collaborate with book-related events, so we’re particularly excited about two great shows tonight and tomorrow night that combine both music and books.

Tonight, we’re looking forward to hearing Sandra McCracken at Sound & Page. The new listening room in Woodlawn has already played host to some amazing music events, and we know tonight’s show will be outstanding — and the vision of the music room that celebrates a love of story is one that we believe in as well. Sandra’s a fan of Wendell Berry, and so are we, so we’re honored to be able to present a special Wendell Berry pop-up store tonight only at Sound & Page during Sandra’s show, tonight at 7 p.m.: Click here for more details.

And you’d better believe we’ll be walking over to Emmet O’Neal Library (one street away from us here on Church Street) tomorrow night to see our friend and fantastic musician Duquette Johnston play a free show as part of the library’s Standing Room Only series. As if it weren’t enough that Duquette is such a great musician and person (and unabashed fan of our Yerba Mate Latte), the free event even includes complementary adult beverages. Head to the library tomorrow night at 7 p.m. for that show: Click here for more details.

We’re thrilled to see musicians partnering with books and libraries, and if this is the start of a new trend, we’re totally on board.
