Healthy Snacks Club this week has been one of the tastiest so far (okay, it’s only been three weeks, but bear with us). We’ve been eating lots of blueberries thanks to a Whole Foods sale, and Neal and Sri each brought in some amazing, dressed up cashew snacks (Neal added rosemary to his, and Sri’s were covered in maple syrup and sesame seeds). And then, there were the desserts … oh, the desserts!
See, Heather was tired of not having anything sweet around, so she whipped up some delcious cinnamon oat bars as well as some chewy chocolate chip cookies made with almond flour, gluten-free oats and natural, non-sugar sweetners. She hasn’t perfected the recipes yet, so they kind of fell apart in our hands, but who cares? They’re going to fall apart when you eat them anyway, right? She’s promised she’ll work on them more, and we may even end up carrying them in the store … if we can get them to stick together. 🙂
We don’t really have recipes to share this week, since we’re pretty much just winging it. But we do recommend one solid pick that will get you started on the healthy path. Michael Pollan’s Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual, is a super-short read — you can breeze through it in a weekend morning. Pollan also has some amazing in-depth books about our food system (Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food are great), but Food Rules is a good introduction to his work, and it’s packed with fantastic tips to start changing the way you eat (and the way you live) immediately.
We’ll be back next week with another post about Healthy Snacks Club … and maybe we’ll see you at the farmer’s market this weekend!
