Marcel Proust’s 142nd birthday is tomorrow, and there are two ways to celebrate: Sit in bed (preferably in a cork-lined room) eating madeleines, or come hang out with us at the library. The library will have cake and madeleines, so we think the choice here is clear.
Emmet O’Neal Library has prepared a great Brown Bag Lunch event celebrating Proust, complete with a talk from Bill Carter, a UAB professor emeritus who just happens to be a preeminent Proust scholar. It’s BYO-lunch, but the library’s providing cake, drinks, and cookies, and Church Street will be there selling books. So come over the Crestline, and spend your lunch break taking in a little culture … and cake!
