This Week at Church Street …

We found this circa 2005 pictures of Carrie and one of our favorite customers, Sara-Margaret, taking a peek into the Nanowrimo bible!

It’s a festive week at Church Street! We’re all planning our Halloween costumes (Carrie’s trying to decide between being a character from a fable or dressing as a snitch from Harry Potter — what a book nerd!), and we’re excited for the Mountain Brook Halloween Parade this Friday. (Psst! We’re so excited, we might be introducing a new drink, just in time for Halloween!)

Also this week, a few of our customers are gearing up for Nanowrimo, which starts on November 1. We know what you’re thinking: “Um … NanoWHAT?” Nanowrimo is a silly name for a fun event called National Novel Writing Month. It’s free, it’s a lot of fun, and anyone with an imagination can be involved. Click here for information or to sign up.

We love the idea of having writers in residence, so to support Nanowrimo participants, we have a special deal — you tell us your Nanowrimo word count, and we’ll give you a cup of coffee for just a dollar.* It’s our way of encouraging your imagination — after all, caffeine is a powerful word count booster. We’re also carrying Chris Baty’s how-to book on Nanowrimo, No Plot No Problem. It’s full of writing ideas that are good any time of year, and it’s a much-needed morale booster and pocket-sized pep talk during Nanowrimo.

We’ll see you soon at Church Street — come celebrate fall with us!

* Price applies to a small (12 oz) coffee. Refills will be charged at the dollar rate. Discount does not apply to espresso drinks or pastries.
